Located in Purbrook, Deverell Hall is one of the few remaining halls left in the local community. Deverell Hall features many refurbishments due largely to a National Lottery Grant and Local Council Funding, which makes it a hugely popular community hall for bookings and activities. We have an image slideshow which shows images of the outside and inside of the hall, and we will be adding a video sometime in the future for users who are not already familiar with the hall layout.

At maximum capacity, Deverell Hall is licenced to hold 150 persons, and when you have a look around the hall, you will see that there are two distinct areas of hire. These is the MAIN HALL which generally speaking, includes the whole main ground floor area. And then there is the UPSTAIRS CONFERENCE ROOM which can hold up to 30 people at any one time. Below is some information that will help you, and the images can be viewed in larger sizes by clicking on the relevant image. The hall operates a strict NO SMOKING policy in line with its own rules and recent Government legalisation.

Click this image to enlargeThe MAIN HALL is 9.5 metres wide and 16.5 metres to the front of the stage. Overall, the entire hall is licensed to hold a maximum of 150 persons at any one time. The main hall itself is the oldest part of the building, with a high ceiling and lovely wooden floor. There is a stage which can be used for drama productions, speeches and such, but is not automatically included within your hire. To have access to the stage area you must request this first, and under no circumstances, must you allow any of your party access to the stage area without prior written consent.

Click this image to enlarge The Main Hall has a high roof and is suitable for most functions. However, it depends on what type of function you are looking for as to whether or not we can help you. The stage area is suitable for public speaking and theatrical groups, but is not automatically included within your hire - Read our Terms & Conditions of hire for further clarification.


Click this image to enlarge The DOWNSTAIRS ROOM is suitable for small meetings not exceeding 12 to 14 persons. This room is ideal for perhaps writers groups, small management meetings, discussion groups. It is carpeted and has 10 soft chairs plus access to other chairs. This room measures 5.2 metres by 4.0 metres.


Click this image to enlarge The KITCHEN is fully modernised. However, under the current licence hot food preparation is not allowed in the kitchen. Teas, coffees and sandwiches may be served from the kitchen, but you CANNOT prepare food on site. There is a small supply of general use cutlery, some kettles, plates and the like, but hirers are requested to confirm their needs before hiring the hall. Apart from the cupboards marked up for general use, all other cupboards contain the property belonging to the regular user groups, and you are not permitted to use that equipment.

Click this image to enlarge On the GROUND FLOOR too there are disabled, ladies and gents toilets, with baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet area. In fact, the hall has a very good disabled access available, and this makes the hall suitable for people with walking difficulties.


Click this image to enlarge At the rear of the DOWNSTAIRS ROOM is a doorway that leads to the stairway that allows access to the upstairs room. If you are just hiring the main hall, then you have no right to access any other areas apart from the ground floor (or agreed areas of hire), so we respectfully ask that hirers who are using the Main Hall, do ensure that their group or party attendees, do not use the upstairs room.


Click this image to enlarge If you are hiring the UPSTAIRS ROOM - Normal access is by its own external door at the rear of the building. A toilet is provided at the foot of the stairs, then this stairway leads to the UPSTAIRS CONFERENCE ROOM and there is a motorised stairlift for disabled access too. The stairs have been well designed for climbing and feature wide treads for safety.


Click this image to enlarge The UPSTAIRS CONFERENCE ROOM is 6.4 metres by 5.2 metres can accommodate up to 25 to 30 persons. There is also a small sink there and use of an urn for boiling water to make tea or coffee. There are 4 large conference tables with padded chairs and adequate seating for the up to 30 people. This room can be hired for meetings and discussion groups. It is not suitable for any exercise groups or activities that may include running around.
